One By One
One by one the birds they fly
Two by two the geese fly too
Flakes they fall and lakes they freeze
River stop and animals sleep
Fungi finds a way up from the ground
Animals sing and make strange sounds
Grow extra fur and extra fat
Find some food and dead grass
Walls of wood tell winters past
Squirrels scurry and chipmunks hurry
And bears they feast and birds they flee
And plants all die except the bulb beneath
And bugs all hide inside deep sleep
One by one the birds they fly
Two by two the geese fly too
Flakes they fall and lakes they freeze
Rivers stop and animals sleep
One by one the leaves detach
Two by two the stems crash too
Three by three the trees grow dormant
Four by four the animals forage
Fungi finds a way up from the ground
Animals sing and make strange sounds
One by one the birds they fly
Two by two the geese fly too
Flakes they fall and lakes they freeze
Rivers stop and animals sleep
